Just a glimpse of life
justakrazymom | August 14th, 2008 @ 1:15 pm

I have a variety of pictures, life, projects, schooling, and a look at Learning Language Arts Through Literature(LLATL) Red Book.

Let’s see..oh here’s Sir Declan doing his music class via Music Ace Deluxe. We both love this program!

Then we spent the morning with Robin and the kids at the bike path, after that we came home to Daddy building new shelves..YEPPIE..Taejan ,of course, needed to help!

Next we took Declan’s old 4×4 power wheels and made it as girly as possible for Miss Jadziah..heck it’s cheaper than buying a new one ( this came from a tag sale years ago anyway)..so here’s the before:

and after..the Hannah Montana Mobile:($12 for wall stickers..can’t beat that)

she’s very happy her her “new to her” truck!

Then since the day was full and we never did get to school work, Declan and I did it after the little ones were in bed for the night ( 6:45pm). I love we can school when and where we want!

Making a leaf rubbing as part of his LLATL lesson.

Today has been another busy day.. Daddy finished the shelves in the garage.. Man he can build things, I think he increased the structural integrity of my house with these..LOL .. at least I know if we ever needed triple bunks he can build them!

Then today was a nap day for the littles and just a 3 r’s day for Declan’s schooling. Here he is doing some Explode the Code:

Now on to LLATL.. he finished up day 5 of lesson 1 in Red Book today and yes.. I am so impressed with this program! In fact I am ordering Blue Book for Jadziah soon!

We started off by reading A Tree is Nice again. Then discussing it.

Here he is underlining naming words in a short passage:

now separating out those words from word cards that you cut from the book:

here he has glued the naming words on the right and the describing words on the left:

Now he’s reading the sentences and picking the right one to describe a picture. Then he has to read some sight words.

Next is putting 6 sets of 4 words in alphabetical order:

We are very pleased thus far with LLATL. We didn’t use the 1st grade book but I plan to with Jadziah.  I am still using Explode the Code also simply because we have the books already… but they are not a MUST use.. LLATL is a full enough program!

The section we are working on is “review”.. sinc ewe didn’t do Blue book some is new to us, but much is easy for Declan and he can’t wait till the lessons get harder!!!

Thanks for showing us LLATL. I am now kicking myself for not ordering it this year. I may try to pick it up used.

Thanks for showing us such a detailed look at the beginning of the LLATL red book! I’m seriously thinking about picking that up for this year… I haven’t bought many new resources for this year since I picked up MUS Beta in the winter when we had a little extra $ - and I’d bought SOTW through Timberdoodle’s Swan Song (ding and dent) sale more than a year ago. It looks like a great resource.

We totally LOVE LLATL….all three big kids have been enjoying it. Momo always asks to do her “red book” first every day. She really likes it. We will be finished lesson 3 tomorrow. The shelves look great!! I need some!

I love Ziah’s new truck! What a great idea with the wall stickers!
I am sending a check your way to get your husband to come and build me some shelves like that. *wink*
Declan is growing so fast and learning so much. Glad to hear that the new program is working for y’all. WTG!

I’m using both the red and blue book with our two oldest. We’re not starting until Monday. I just picked up A Tree is Nice from the library yesterday. I hope my kiddos like it as well as yours!

I really loved LLATL but my ds didn’t do as well. I think had we started young with it it would have flown better. My dd did exceptional with it and actually skipped a grade level in provincial testing and I blame LLATL’s structure for that. It’s Charlotte Mason and classical learning rolled into one neat package.

Lots going on at your home. :)

The shelves are VERY sturdy looking and the truck is very girly now. :)
