Dojo Tour and Demonstration

Today we got to go to Declan’s ( and Noah’s) karate school for a tour/demonstration for the homeschool group. We had I believe 19 kids come, and 12/13 participated the rest watched. 4 of the kids there are students already at the dojo and each got to show off some of their skills.

Here’s the group in the Dojo waiting area with Sensei Connie:

lining up to go in the dojo:

then here they are in the dojo listening as S. Connie explains the different items in the dojo and the history behind our style of Karate:

As S. Connie explained the different ranks she showed the group the plaques the students get once they reach Gokyu rank. Declan just got his last month when he got his green stripe:

Mr. Declan..

Being shown the opening and closing bow:

We were luckily enough to be able to watch a kata called Tiger Kata that we’ve never seen done before..I don’t think Declan even blinked while watching it ( and yes he’s been trying to practice it at home since):

Declan showing the rest Tiger Claw:

Everyone trying them:

One of the girls showing off the kata she is learning to move up in rank:

Getting to try kicks:

Question and answer time:

Declan helping show Kumite:

And a friend being shown what good kicks are:

Then S. Connie showed us a really neat Kata..I love watching them!!

At one point Declan was asked to show the kata he had to know to get his latest rank , so he got up and did Kanshiwa. He was not happy after though ,he said he didn’t do it perfect..he was a tad nervous I think:

Howe Cavern’s

So we decided to take the kids to Howe Cavern’s yesterday. Noah had a meet and was gone all day so it was just the littles. Last time we were here I was pregnant for Jadziah!

There are a ton of pictures..I took over 100 but managed to cut that in half..some are with no flash, some with to show detail, some are ceiling pictures , some down the side, not a single one does the place justice.

We were afraid how the kids would react, it’s an 80 minute walking tour, about 150 feet below ground,no bathrooms,no stops, no turning back. Taejan was my biggest worry, but despite one little “I’ve had enough of being good” jumping fest at the Bridal Altar he was perfect. Ziah loved it and was fine,Declan was, well, Declan. He was mostly ok with it but was apparently convinved we were going to flip into the water during the short boat ride, but we managed to survive!

So here’s the pictures…

This is an active flow stone..the spring feeding it is called the Eternal Spring..very cool we got to “watch it grow”…lol

This was on the boat ride. At the very end they turn off lights..That’s a whole new level of dark believe me!

If legend holds true Miss Jadziah will be married within a year because she stood on this stone:

The VERY narrow Windy Way:

The kids, especially Jadziah, loved it. We got them each a helmet with a light on it at the gift shop and they’ve been spurlunking since!  Eric and I are planning to do the Adventure Tour this summer..now that will be a blast!

A birthday surprise!

First off here’s Declan as he headed to bed last night..his last night as a 6 year old!

he had no clue what was in store for him this morning. We got up and got moving right away..hopped in the van by 7:45 and drove and picked up one of his best buds Brock..neither of them had a clue what was going on..Declan was so thrilled when we pulled up at Brocks house and Brock came out and got in the van! Off we drove about 90 minutes to Imagine Nation.

The kids had a BLAST..this place is the best children’s museum we’ve been to yet..and the admission is really affordable ( $5 each)!

There are 2 full stories of activites and one in the works on the 3rd floor ( and astronomy exhibit):

They all loved the climber on the 2nd floor:

Ziah loved seeing herself on the TV in the Sports Center exhibit:

I loved this giant geo board… I could have made designs with rubberbands all day..lol

About half way thru the visit we let the kids get ice cream at the old fashion soda fountain they have. It was fun! I must say I was a tad nervous..Brock is diabetic and while I’ve had him for a few hours here and there and managed his blood sugar, this is the first time I’ve had him for a long time and so far from his mom.. but we are in hour 9 ( he came back to play) and his blood sugars have been great! I’m glad for both he and Declan..this was a good test to be sure we can take him more places with us!

They do all look happy don’t they?

We left and the kids all needed lunch..of course we let Declan pick, and with Yolanda’s help (Yolanda would be the name the kids gave our GPS..lol) we found a McDonalds..It was like a time warp..I don’t think it’s been remodeled since the 1980’s..lol

We had a great day!! It’s so odd to think “Baby Dekkie” is now 7 years old!!

A trip to the beach :)

New england style..lol..

It was so warm yesterday..like 55! Stacy and the boys came over and we took the kids to the lake!

It was so beyond pretty with the sun shinning and everything sparkling!

We walked across a good section of the lake..parallel to the beach we normally swim at. The kids loved finding icy spots..

On the way there and back they climbed just about every snowbank they could find.

Unfortunately I forgot to put mu memory card in..so I couldn’t take pictures of us on the lake or the kids at the playground area..
