What are your goals?
So anyone who is just getting back to schooling or about to..what are your goals for the new year?
For me.. it’s finding a balance between activities, household stuff and schooling.. especially now with Eric working days again.
Within that balance I need to figure out how to school Ziah and Declan at the same time and not feel like Ziah is loosing out…or that Taejan is because he is off on his own while we school.
I have other goals..Declan needs to get better at spelling and writing..and I want to have Ziah reading more than just simple bob books before Thanksgiving.. As for Taejan..I would just like him to learn to control himself better, especially when we are schooling..

Got something to say?

Sounds like you are going to have a busy year. Of course as a homeschool mom, we always have busy years, right? I am just hoping to get through this year in one piece. I will have one in high school, one in middle, and one in elementary. Fun, fun, fun! Hannah takes Geometry this year and that will be a task for the both of us. I am weak in that area and math is not one of her favorite subjects. Melanie wants to do more videography/photography so I have been searching the web for resources and Lindsay will be practicing her cursive skills and should have them mastered by the end of the year and we will also be learning her multiplication tables. So these are just some of our goals we hope to meet. :0) Good luck with all of your goals.
My goals for this year:
Figure out the whole virtual academy thing and MAKE IT WORK for Nathan.
Find the balance between his schooling, my schooling (only taking one online class this semester), AND the hours of homework that the FOUR littles will be bringing home each day.
I want to add in more FUN this year. I had what you have this year…2 that have a full load of school. I worked on getting Remy to a point that he could READ directions and self teach. Now, he isn’t alone in his schooling, but I needed him to not NEED me at all times. They are both able to find what they need to do and do it. I can guide and tend to other matters in our home.
Last year I had them on a different schedule because I was trying to have one doing something easy while I helped one with something hard. I like getting math done together like those one room school houses…and Remy is learning alot from Eli!
This year, so far, I have noticed that they like to do the same subject at the same time.
But back to fun! I want to add in a lot of hands on learning! Last year we suffered in this department.
Your kids are just slightly older than my first three. I have similar challenges when planning homeschooling. I want enough time with my oldest while not ignoring the younger ones. I think having simple goals for the year is most helpful. With my oldest (6.5) I just want him to enjoy school, learn about his country and continue to enjoy the outdoors and reading. Academically, he needs to work on writing with lower case letters and become more independent with spelling words. With my almost 5 year old I want her to stay excited about reading as she works through her Bob Books. She gets to write her name and the date inside the book when she masters it and put a sticker on the outside so she knows which ones she has mastered. I’ll be working with her on writing her letters since we’ve never done formally teaching on this with her yet. With my 3 year old I would just like her to continue to get excited about learning, continue to enjoy good books, and know all her phonics soon. She really wants to read like her big sister, so this is a good motivator. Maybe she’ll start using the Bob books when she’s four, too! I think balance between life, the home, homeschooling and toddler/infants is a challenge. But, I’m up for it! I’m looking forward to this year!!
This makes me wish my homeschooling days were not over. What a great way to organize your school days! My thinking cap will be worn all day, so that I can come up with a different way to use your system…Such as, a drawer with my drawing books and pencils, one with my photography/Photoshop CS books, etc. This just might make homeschooling myself in those areas actually happen. Thanks for sharing!
