WorkBoxes~Tweak #3

Well I went and did it again..I tweaked our Workboxes.Since we are always changing and growing our needs tend to change also.Here you can see how we’ve used them up to this point. And now the “new” way .

I can honestly say that while I LOVE the concept of workboxes, and the use of them when they are being used..I hate filling them.. I just do. I hate deciding what fun stuff to put where..how much fun, I really dislike scheduling breaks and snacks and other tasks… so I threw all that out the window. Maybe when my kids are bigger I’ll bring that back..maybe.

So I merged Workboxes and Waiting Stations, and Added in work binders.

Here’s our new workboxes..we have 6 that are full of the work the kids do together:




Most of the work they do separately is seatwork, so I got out the trusty 3 ring binders ( I admit Declan needs a better one) and did a tab for each day and I fill it every Sunday night with the seatwork they need to do each day. This has worked wonderfully. The green one on the far right is our travel workboxes..for when we need to bring work to various activities ( dance, karate ,wrestling etc)


Now for the “fun” stuff we have our Waiting Stations. The kids and I both LOVE waiting stations..they have literally saved me from the “mom I neeeddddd you”’s…. We were having one issue..with a kiddo using a station and then me being ready to help then losing their spot, so I created little signs that say “Wait Station in use by..” and added velcro dots to the sign and the waiting station signs..problem solved!

here’s a few of the most recent waiting stations..but we also set up the Wii Fit Plus, or Guitar hero, playdough  etc to keep them busy and provide some stimulus:

    Love the changes you’ve made! I would love to do the wait stations once I’m schooling all mine.

    Just today, I was thinking about doing something like this with the loose leaf notebooks. I only use the “workboxes” for their independent activities and I too hate filling the boxes every day. I have been looking for a system where I only set up once a week, not every day. Maybe I will give this a try. Thanks for the inspiration.

    I love the way you’ve tweaked the system again. I think I may semi-steal this idea. lol I love the idea of the waiting stations, too. I may have to try to implement that into our day. Hmmm…lol

    Hey Alison,

    I love seeing the photos and learning about your tweaks! I’m also wondering how you like the Evan-Moor “Teaching Art to Children” book up there in workbox #1. That book is tempting me!
