Wayzley Academy

We are a house that is always changing, growing, and making new patterns. Anyone that’s been to my house knows I tend to change things around as I feel it’s needed. I’ve re purposed items, removed items, put items back as the kids have grown, as our lives have changed, as time goes on. Our day to day schedule is in constant flux as each day is so different ( yet the same).

Today while Eric took Declan to karate, with Taejan and Ziah in tow.. I tore apart our “playroom”. The “Playroom” is a 3 season sunroom off the kitchen. We’ve used it as a playroom since we moved here 5.5 years ago. Well a few months back we got a really nice couch given to us that just wasn’t perfect for the living room, so we put it out there. Since that couch entered the sunroom I’ve noticed a change.

The room has become less a full on playroom packed with toys, and more a chilling room for the kids.

I’ve also noticed that as the kids get older they have totally different interests in toys. Declan is less a toy kid than a “thing” kid, Bakugan , Pokemon, legos and such are his items of choice. Jadziah likes little things, her doll house , pocketbooks, makeup and such. Taejan is all about the cars,trucks,diggers,etc. So as these changes have come they use the “universal” toys less and less. So gone are the Little People playsets the boxes of blocks,and more.

Now we have space.. a big room with a couch, an end table, a shelf of kid and family games, a small table for the kiddos, a bookcase and 4 small drawers of toys( lincoln logs,Potato heads and misc).

All this reminds me how fast my little ones are becoming bigger ones. Times are changing, and we’re changing with them.. even if we’d prefer not to change so fast.

We’ve had a pretty decent overall week.. lots of living, learning and fun. We spent Wednesday afternoon at Melissa’s house playing,having lunch and doing Tie Dye ( no pictures)..we’ve biked to the lake , played in the yard and shopped..

Oh and we’ve schooled… I learned long ago Declan loves learning games.. especially anything that is made into Bingo! We have 3 different versions of Math bingo’s, he loves them all! I was very pleased when we got to a lesson in LLATL and it had vowel sounds bingo! Declan was in his glory let me say!

I’ve also found that Walmart has a great selection of pre-made games for $2.58 each..I have bought most of them and we enjoy playing! Here he is doing the Money Match..which after the first time playing I realized he was beyond..LOL.. I’ve never focused on teaching money, just using it in life and apparently that tactic worked because the kid gets money WELL! Did I mention wedo a lot of school at night now? Declan calls it Night School. Ziah and Taejan are in bed by 6:45 most nights which leaves us a hour until Eric comes home on break..so we fill it with lessons, games and learning!

Early Halloween? Nope..just a typical afternoon here.. Declan is ready for Karate, Ziah is being a ballerina..and Taejan..well he’s being Taejan:( that’s a strawberry shortcake hat, bob the builder overalls and one pink book and one normal cowboy boot)

Oh and here’s me.. Declan took this lovely pictures and insist’s I post it.. ugh..Although I have had worse picture’s taken..lol.. I can finally tell I am firming up..I’ve lost like 4 pounds but better than that I don’t feel so loose anymore!

well off to continue our day..we’re going swimming later so we need to get the house all settled and schooling finished up!! Have a good one all!

It’s all on my bike and ready to go.. I am excited… Declan can more than keep up when we go to the bike trail, Ziah does ok.. but Taejan ..well he can’t..so now we can actually go to the bike trail and all ride!!!

Ok..tomorrow’s it..I get back to getting up early and getting my butt moving! I was so good about it when Eric first went on nights…but that has gone out the window..well as I sit here and notice my belly has grown again..I am sooo ready to get back to moving, eating better and feeling better!

Let’s see..oh here’s Sir Declan doing his music class via Music Ace Deluxe. We both love this program!

Then we spent the morning with Robin and the kids at the bike path, after that we came home to Daddy building new shelves..YEPPIE..Taejan ,of course, needed to help!

Next we took Declan’s old 4×4 power wheels and made it as girly as possible for Miss Jadziah..heck it’s cheaper than buying a new one ( this came from a tag sale years ago anyway)..so here’s the before:

Then since the day was full and we never did get to school work, Declan and I did it after the little ones were in bed for the night ( 6:45pm). I love we can school when and where we want!

Today has been another busy day.. Daddy finished the shelves in the garage.. Man he can build things, I think he increased the structural integrity of my house with these..LOL .. at least I know if we ever needed triple bunks he can build them!

Then today was a nap day for the littles and just a 3 r’s day for Declan’s schooling. Here he is doing some Explode the Code:

Now on to LLATL.. he finished up day 5 of lesson 1 in Red Book today and yes.. I am so impressed with this program! In fact I am ordering Blue Book for Jadziah soon!

We started off by reading A Tree is Nice again. Then discussing it.

Here he is underlining naming words in a short passage:

Now he’s reading the sentences and picking the right one to describe a picture.Then he has to read some sight words.

Next is putting 6 sets of 4 words in alphabetical order:

We are very pleased thus far with LLATL. We didn’t use the 1st grade book but I plan to with Jadziah.  I am still using Explode the Code also simply because we have the books already… but they are not a MUST use.. LLATL is a full enough program!

The section we are working on is “review”.. sinc ewe didn’t do Blue book some is new to us, but much is easy for Declan and he can’t wait till the lessons get harder!!!
