November 7th, 2008 @ 2:13 pm

We’ve had a great productive week around here!

Miss Jadziah has started formal math.. She’s is on page 3 of Lesson 2 in Math U See Primer and LOVING it!

Also the Fun Boxes are still a huge hit around here.. I made up new ones for them Tuesday:

Taejan’s:

Ziah’s:

Declan’s:

here they are enjoying them!

In History we’ve been learning about the first writings..so the kids did Cuneiform with clay:

Then we made paper:( this kit is another one of my Target clearance finds I go tit about 4 months ago for $3)

The the kids did their seatwork for History:

Declan wrote his name using the cuneiform alphabet:

Taejan has been loving his Kumon books:

Oh and since Trick or Treat the kids have been trading candy and I think they finally each have what they like only..of course they have so durn much it will take them 2 years to eat it since they can only have 2 pieces a day..lol

Lots of learning going on!
November 3rd, 2008 @ 12:01 pm

The time change has thrown the whole house outta wack..but that’s ok. I was up and at the gym for 5am and the kids were all up and moving entirely too early ( yawn think 6:15).. but we took advantage and got lots of schooling in very early!

First stop was History! We are just finishing up Mesopotamia. The kids learned about Sargon and more!

Here’s Declan at his Usborne Sticker Atlas.

Their coloring:

Taejan did some work in his new Kumon book:

Next came science! We found these great Little Lab kits at a science store when we were out of town the other day. Declan picked the Crane one so we had at it this morning..what fun and so worth the $15 we paid!! It can be completely reused( local friends if you want to borrow it let me know!) which I like the best!!

Here’s Declan putting the knowledge wheel together:

The first lesson was on lever’s:

after using the kit we found some common lever’s in the house!

Next we made a wheelbarrel!

and of course:

it was about here we lost Ziah’s interest.. so Declan and I made a pulley and his actin figure took a ride:

Our favorite build was the Crane!!

I think Taejan would have played with it all day!

Mid Week Update!
October 29th, 2008 @ 11:45 am

I haven’t posted pictures of what we’ve been up too in a few so while I have 5 minutes I thought I would!

Let’s see.. well the kids “Fun Boxes” as they call them have become a huge hit around here. They can only have them after breakfast once they are dressed and only for about 30 minutes so they aren’t getting tired of them at all.. I also change them over about every 4  days and the kids have begun swapping things sometimes..LOL

This is them Monday getting their fresh “new” boxes!Yeah Declan didn’t get dressed yet but that’s ok..this time!

And playing the various games that are in their boxes:

Declan and Ziah have taken to doing History at night now.. this works well as some nights Taejan is already in bed. We are loving Story of the World vol 1 with History Odyessy! Even when Taejan is awake it’s easy to get him to help and or listen to the stories with us!

There has been lots of Fun School too.. Between cooking:

and even making fog they’ve had a blast!

Eric has started really working with Taejan and Ziah while I am doing seat work with Declan… so they are getting a lot of FUN preschool/Kindergarten time now! Eric has learned to make anything a learning experience.. even Connect 4 with a 3 year old.. whala it’s patterning!

and of course since it is almost Halloween they’ve been making lots of pumpkins..includin painting potato’s to look like pumpkins!

and making lunch bag pumpkins:

Declan got to help Noah with his Biology homework the other night:

and he’s done some good seatwork for himself too!

of course there is always lots of good ole fun too.. for Taejan fun is often a task.. he cleaned my sink the other day…

but sometimes fun for him is just playing with his new excavator(Thanks to Gramma):

And fun for all ( well not Noah..he was in school) is just enjoying the first snowfall of the year!

Oh and fun the other day was going Trick or Treating at the local mall!

Apple Day
October 15th, 2008 @ 4:56 pm

Today was “Apple Day” at our friend Amy’s house. We missed it last year so we were glad we got to go this year.. an added perk is the weather was just amazing for mid October!

Amy has a great backyard complete with a hiking trail and mountain stream.. the kids love it there!

Amy has a cider press so we got to bring apples and make cider..of course only Taejan had any interest..the other 2 were too busy playing with their friends ( they are so anti-social and shy..lol)

There were lots of Apple activities and snacks too..the kids loved it!

The kids also got an upclose and personal look at a duck( can’t remember what kind it is)..Cal(Amy’s oldest) and his Dad went hunting ( Cal tagged along I should say) and they came home with this!

Thanks again Amy for the great morning! Oh I also found out that the dad of 2 of the kids ( mom is Megan) is Noah’s History Teacher..how cool is that?

Messy Art anyone??
May 27th, 2008 @ 3:26 pm

~Edited Again~

I just posted another post about MORE messy art:

We were at it again last night..care to see:

http://wayzleyacademy.homeschooljournal.net/2008/06/03/more-messy-art/

Edited!

WOW.. I have had over 500 hits to this page today 6/2..so hello all..I see I was linked on several sites/homeschool sites and such.. very cool! If you look up you’ll see I posted a page for all our messy art endeavors! If you have a minute post a comment and then take a look around..welcome to my blog!!

We were supposed to have Thunderstorms all afternoon today..but that didn’t happen ( yet) so I decided after Daddy left for work we’d have some unplanned outside fun!

So what happens when you combine these items?

with these clean kids?

well you get a whole lot of FUN ( and a stick in the mud 2 and 4 year old..LOL)

First we tried in on paper like the person I heard about this from said to:

Right here is where Taejan and Ziah decided this was NOT for them…. Ziah didn’t like getting messy ( DIVA) and Taejan didn’t like the popping noise:

BUT Sir Declan of Moodyville LOVED it.. I mean LOVED it..he made my day with how much fun he had!!

and this is the point we decided to skip the paper!

Doing the “I LOVE THIS MOM” dance..rofl

Noah helped make a few of them, although he was slightly challenged by the whole..zip up the bag thing..LOL

I am the proud owner of a tie dye kid and driveway..LOL

on to the clean up..even the littles got involved!

“Poor” Declan is still blue even after a super long shower..LOL> but he wants to “do this experiment AGAIN momm”…LOL

So exactly what did we do? well here is the original instructions:

Cut a paper towel into fourths. Put one tablespoon of baking soda in the middle of each section and fold the paper around it. Put each “pillow” into its own plastic ziplock bag.

Add a few squirts of tempra paint (the more you add, the more intense the color, obviously), and then add 1/2 cup vinegar.

Seal bag and shake. Put bag on large piece of paper and let it explode, jump on it to make it explode…whatever. Then use paintbrushes, feet, hands, etc. to spread the paint around on the paper.

after the first few we skipped the paper towel and just loaded up the baggie with paint then loaded it with baking soda and dumped in the vinegar and closed the bag FAST..let it “rise” and JUMP.. The paint washes off so no worries about messes lasting!!!
