Little House in the Big Woods..

This kiddo’s finished their lapbook from In the Hands of a Child based on ” Little House in the Big Woods” by Laura Ingalls Wilder today. We finished the book last week and I am so pleased with how much the kiddos, even my Tiny Tag Along got from it!

As I post this they are creating a deer lick and hunting deer.. they have made butter ( both real and pretend), pretended to smoke meat, and of course there was bee stings and mud wrappings!

Here they are with their finished product!

This was the first Literature based project pack we did with a read aloud..I am very glad we did.. it will not be our last!

(october 29th 2008)We are avid Lapbooker’s around here… but.. Declan and I have decided to stop making said lapbooks and start making notebooking pages instead with the lapbook items..This way I can have things in 3 ring binder’s verses lapbooks all over. This also allows us to add to each topic much faster and easier AND he can have a full record of everythignon that topic from 6 years till he’s done.. that will be very cool!

So our first is Jena Jaguar and here it is.. we didn’t do all the activities some of them were below his level and of no interest to him and some we just didn’t do..but we still learned a lot and loved it..as we always do with HOAC!

Noah and Declan recently each finished a HOAC lapbook. Declan did “The Circle of Life” and Noah “The US Constitution “. As always we loved the project packs and each kiddo learned a ton!( Noah is now working on Pioneers )

Here’s Noah’s. He opted to use 3 folders and staple them together:

Inside:

Declan did 2 folders and 2 extensions.  He also did some activities from other sites and added to the project pack, and left room so he can add new things if he desires.

Front:

Jadziah and I have been working on the Down on the Farm lapbook from Hands of a Child all week.. she finished it today and is very proud of herself! This is the first lapbook that was JUST for her to do! She arranged everything in it and did so very well!

Revolutionary War Lapbook!

Well Noah has finished his last Lapbook of the school year! Have I mentioned how glad I am we are almost done for the “year”?? He will finish off the rest of his History for this year with a unit of SOS and we will pick back up with lapbooking with Pioneer’s come September!

inside: now we did this with 3 file folders stapled together..no refolding.

I will miss our project packs for the next few months, but we are both glad toWell as if the Ladies at Hands of a Child were reading my lesson plans, this month’s “freebie’ with your super membership was a Simple Machines Project pack! Noah just finished up a 2 unit study of Simple Machines with his 8th grade Switched On Schoolhouse so this was most excellent for us!He started it Wednesday and finished it today.

Front cover..notice he kept it “simple”:

this was a GREAT way for him to solidify the facts he learned in his “normal” lessons and put them to use.. Thanks ladies!

Clownfish Adventures Lapbook and the Diorama!

Well since we had some unexpected time with just Declan and I ( well Noah was here doing his work and Taejan was happily playing without big sis bossing him around) we took advantage, got our normal lessons ( ya know those pesky subjects like Math, Phonics and Handwriting) out of the way and jumped into finishing off the Diorama and the Clownfish Adventures Lapbook! I am so glad I decided to buy this unit..Declan loved how it was about a movie..he loved yet it was learning too.. it was sweet the way he took to this unit!

So here’s my Karate kid with his finished Diorama..

And here is the finished lapbook!

Cover:

Inside.. we opted for a single folder with 2 extensions..I like the way it came out personally!

Well next on the to do list is Down on the Farm…I have a LOT of extra activities for that one so it should be a ton of fun!!! We won’t go visit the farm since Robin just had the baby..but since we’ve been to one..oh a bazillion times I’m not worried..they know what one looks like..LOL

Well Noah and Declan finished their Sled Dogs Lapbooks..they aren’t real pretty..but they sure did learn a lot!!

Declaration of Independence Lapbook!

Well Noah completed another US History Lapbook from Hands of a Child today! Again we are loving lapbooking our way thru History!

Noah opted for a different set-up of the Lapbook itself so he didn’t refold he just stapled two together to get the look he wanted.

Monday we begin the Revolutionary War Project Pack.. we can’t wait!!!

Under the Sea Lapbook

Declan finished his Under the Sea lapbook from HOAC. This was a great lapbook for sure! We are not done with our Ocean Unit as a whole though so check back in a few to see what else we did!

The Front:

The back with the Origami Whale he made:

The inside..we added a flap so the books we did from Enchanted Learning would fit too.

Declan with the lapbook!

Ben Franklin

This is a big unit so it took a double folder! Here’s the cover:

The whole inside:

left side: This is also the first Project Pack Noah has done that had the Type it in feature..which he LOVED since he detests writing..LOL

right side:

Hands of a Child did it again..made a wonderful product!

Ahoy Matey!

Here’s Ziah’s.. we added extensions to both so they could have more room and add things if they want in the future!

Here’s Declan’s:

Well Declan and I made a Subtraction Facts lapbook thanks to Homeschool Share! He’s not doing subtraction yet.. but we have a sick house so we needed something to pass the time!

EDITED~ People have been asking where I got different parts of the lapbook.the entire thing can be found at the link above!

We finished our Addition facts Lapbook today! This was a free unit from Homeschool Share , I am so grateful for the work the Mama who made it put into it!You can get it here!

This has already proved VERY useful and I know it will continue to be as Declan masters his facts!

Water Cycle

Well we finished it! So here it is!

The foundation for this is from Hands of a Child. I added other things I located online and we did lots of activities and such that can’t be put in a lapbook!

Here’s the front cover:

We did this activity book( PDF file..can be printed) which couldn’t be attached to the lapbook so we just laid it inside:

This next part is a printable placemat.. well it’s supposed to print well but mine didn’t so I ended up putting the image into Word then resizing and printing. We used it as a nice visual for the whole unit.

the wheel in the middle came from here.

here’s the sides:

the cloud craft came from DLTK:

The underside of the first extension:

The top of the 2nd extension:

The underside of it:

The Water Cycle in a Bag came from here.

The inside of the book:

This little book came from here.

We also played this several times.. Droplet the game.

We read this online book: Drippy the raindrop.

For older kids ( Declan’s 5 years 11months) there are also a lot of activities here.

And a fill in here.

We hope you enjoyed our Lapbook.. we loved learning and making it!

Solar System:

Here we go:

This is the front of the lapbook:

and the back.. this is Astronaut Declan :

this is a double folder with 4 added pages. so on the left side flaps we have a book about Mars and a small copywork book naming things in space:

then on one side of one of the added pages we have the planet match game as well as a fold out that shows the relative size and spacing of the planets.

On the other added pages we have the planet facts as well as showing the 2 Solar System book’s we made .

Inside we have the Trek to Pluto game..this one is fun!

Under that we have the constellations and the phases of the moon.

On to the right side.. we have the line up of the planets matching game and extra room for anything Declan wants to add later on.

on one side of the added pages we have facts about famous astronauts as well as Mission badges from different missions and the badge Declan created:

Next we have yet another game.. Journey to The Planet’s..

Oh of course Declan had to go on a Shuttle mission and decide what supplies he would need:

This is what he would see when he’s in space:

Lastly for fun he was able to create his own Galaxy! He Named it the Blue Jay Galaxy and everything in it is green!

Well needless to say I am excited, proud and yes glad this one is over! Next stop is either the water cycle or weather.. Declan hasn’t decided..lol

Japan:

We read “The boy of the three year nap” and added a book of pictures from a trip to Japan and a mini book with some symbols of Japan!

Turkey Time:

Magic Tree House:

Here’s Declan with his! Notice on the front is his new Lakota name..the kids all thought up new names.. his is “Fly’s like BlueJay”
